MIRROR MEDITATIONS

This project utilities an analogue photographic practice to explore natural light in various environments as a symbol of the duality of anxiety and peace. With reference to the photographic genre of ‘straight photography’, a practice that utilizing the unique characteristics of photography in order to narrate a scene, this project encompass traditional dark room processing with unconventional forms in order to develop the work into a personal expression.

In an attempt to document these coinciding behaviors, this investigation focuses on capturing the ephemeral within a photographic frame. Ephemeral signifying a fleeting moment in time captured on film, within the boundary of the frame. By capturing light and shadow throughout contrasting moments in the day, and freezing the frame in time, the concepts become ephemeral, as they are in existence. Exploring how the fragility of shadows cast by natural light creates a metaphor for the duality of anxiety and peace.
